Small leather shag rugs can be used at entryways but this is not ideal. They are durable, but if made of suede or a blend of jersey and leather, they are so wonderful and soft, they are best for besides and living rooms.
One innovative use of leather small rugs is for footstools, either on the stool or under it. They also make ideal seat covers for rustic wood chairs and benches. Leather shag rugs are also great near the fireplace, but just make sure that they have been treated with a fire retardant.

The smell of the leather makes these carpets wonderful for dens, lounges, sitting rooms, and even children’s rooms. Since they come in a variety of colors they can be very masculine for a boys room in brown or grey or fun and feminine in a girls room in blue or soft rose or creamy white.
Most of the leather small rugs must be dry-cleaned and so these should not be used in the kitchen kids rooms or high traffic regions of the home. However, the long pile spaghetti shag rugs are wonderful beside a sofa or in a place where they can be sat on to read or relax, and if cared for by vacuuming with an upholstery attachment won’t get very dirty and will therefore last a long time.
The best leather shag rugs that are durable will have been hand knotted and will likely have been made in India or Asia, sometimes they are made from fine Italian leather, but hand tied in India. These fine pieces are wonderful under a desk in a home office, used on seats and chairs, draped over sofas and footstools and used beside the bed.
