Are you planning to refurnish your kitchen cabinets? For many people this project may come as an insurmountable obstacle just because they do not know that it can be done fairly easily.

There are many articles that fully explain the steps of refacing kitchen cabinets.  With some basic tools like sandpaper, screwdriver, hammer, and wood putty, you can beautify your cabinets.

Just remember a few basic steps. Kitchen cabinets which have been previously painted need to be stripped off with chemicals and then sanded. A polyurethane finish or clear varnish is going to set off these cabinets well.

As for the kitchen cabinet hardware, ie. cabinet knobs, pulls, and hinges, they need a different care if you want to use them again.  They can be soaked in soapy water and then rinsed with soft brushes before polishing. On the other hand, you might want to replace the cabinet knobs and hinges if you want something in a really more stylish and current design. There are plenty of places where you can get these knobs and hinges, on the Internet as well as in your local hardware store.

Remember to get those hinges which match the size of your previous hinges. If you buy something in a larger size, you will need to make additional holes in your cabinets. Same thing goes for knobs. Huge door knobs suiting patio doors may not suit your kitchen cabinets. You can get them in a wide variety of materials, shapes, styles, designs and color combinations but it is always very sensible to find similar looking knob combinations. You do not want one in porcelain, one in wood, one in metal, one in plastic, one in ceramic etc. would you? This eclectic and varied taste is going to give your kitchen cabinets a thoroughly lopsided and unfinished look.

Once your kitchen cabinets have been repainted and are completely dry, replace the kitchen cabinet hardware by screwing it into its correct place. Then fix the cabinets back in their proper positions and stand back to admire your handy work and the knowledge that you were able to do it yourself.
