For the last several years most new homes built all have garages attached to the home. There was a time when a homeowner had a garage attached to their home, they actually used it as a place to park their car to protect it from the elements of natural and the damages they can cause to a car’s finish. However, today garages are more often used as a storage unit for the stuff there is no room for in the house. There are also some people who renovate their garage into an additional living area, at home gym or home office.
When remodeling or converting a garage is something that is being considered there are several items to be considered before the work begins. The first thing to do is to design a plan with the ideas for the renovated garage to be used for, once the idea is on paper, begin looking at the cost of making those ideas a reality. Careful planning and preparation are the two main ingredients to renovating the garage into a new family room or home office. If the need is for another bathroom then a plumber will be needed in order to install the proper drainage and pipe system to allow for the new use of this part of the home.
Renovating the garage in to most different types of spaces can be a very expensive undertaking and getting different estimates from electricians, plumbers or even a contractor will help make the decision of whether to do it or not an easier one to make. Also, to be considered is if the work needs to be done by a contractor or if it is something you and a friend or two could tackle. Before taking on a project of this scope it is important to be 100% positive you have done your homework and know what you are getting into.
