If you are looking for heating options that do not use electricity, you can consider indoor propane heaters. You do not need to connect these propane heaters to electrical wires. They are usually powered by the propane gas kept in the heater tank. However, a constant oxygen supply is needed for burning propane gas to assure a consistent supply of heat. Indoor propane heaters operate when you light the gas tank with a match or other flammable objects.

An indoor propane heater is useful for heating those enclosures of your home that are not properly insulated. Use these heaters to provide a cheaper source of energy for warming the enclosed regions of your home. Indoor heaters are considered to be excellent source of heat particularly in the frosty days. It is just great to relax away a chilly weekend, relishing fumed coffee or enjoying hot chicken soup with the propane heater on.

Indoor Heaters: Types

Indoor Propane heaters are usually categorized into two types. They are:

•   Portable Indoor Propane Heaters: Portable indoor propane heaters are preferred by most users because of their portability. You can easily move these heaters from one room to another. But, remember that these heaters need to be placed on stable surfaces that do not have any flammable things.

•   Wall-mounted Indoor Propane Heaters: These heaters are comparatively larger than the portable indoor propane heaters. So, they often need electricity for its operation. They need to be properly ventilated through exhaust pipes leading outside your residence.

Indoor propane heaters are really beneficial and cost-effective

Using indoor propane heaters is undoubtedly a cost effective method of warming up your residence. Unlike the electric heaters that mostly raise your electricity bill, the propane heaters are a cheaper lot because they utilize gas. You will be amazed to see the variety of indoor propane heaters. They are designed to fulfill the requirements of any and every pocket. Indoor propane heaters are basically thermostatically designed and controlled to operate for the whole day without use of electricity.

Prevention

Indoor propane heaters necessitate good ventilation to operate. Ventilate all your rooms where you operate propane heaters

The white rodgers thermostats comes in a number of models and each have it own speciality and the best part of that is that the white rodgers unit is one of the most innovative product company. All you can get is the latest technology and they have rendered the old manual system a big hit.

These thermostats are programable and can be set to various requirements and the best part is that they are able to control the entire house and the office or any other location for that matter with a simple control and you don’t have to do the manual changes every time you come in and move out of the house or the location. These heat pump thermostats are highly efficient and can control the temperature settings with precision and they can be use to control other products like humidifiers and more, but the entire system should be fixed together.

These thermostats can be programmed in various forms, you can fix these units to set the controls for every day of the week and the settings will repeat itself for the days of the week, thus covering the on and off days. It is highly efficient and can be controlled on the time basis where the controls can be managed on the time and not on the days format. It will turn off after you leave for the office in the morning and will turn on once you are about to reach home and will maintain the temperature to the fixed temperature settings that you have done. It is just the fact that they have to be programmed that way and the settings have to be done initially and than you are all good to go. There are systems than can control the different rooms separately and can provide the best results that you have hoped for since long.

More people are beginning to choose halogen heaters over other types of portable electric heaters, mainly because they are usually considerably cheaper to run than regular electric space heaters or portable propane heaters. Heat emanates from halogen bulbs rather than a coiled heating element; and this is the major difference as far as the actual construction of the heater.

Many of these types of heaters have a rotating head, similar to a rotating fan, that actually directs the heat around the room. This works well, as halogen heaters are radiant heaters meaning that rather than heating up all of the air in a room they heat up the objects they come in contact with. Thus rotating the heater means that more areas of the room are covered than if it was stationary and heating only the objects in its direct path.

Some people have safety concerns, worrying that the halogen bulbs contain chemicals that are detrimental to health. While they do contain chemicals they are actually less dangerous for you than fluorescent light bulbs, and that danger (for both types of bulbs) is only present when the bulb explodes or breaks–something that is a fairly rare occurrence. Even then there is no real danger posed as the amount of chemicals released is very minor and not likely to harm in any way, providing your skin does not come in direct contact with the chemicals.

They are also made with a cool metal casing which does not heat up, unlike electric heaters which can become very hot to the touch. This is great if you have small children, or if you have pets at home as they will not be harmed even if they brush up against the heater. They will also automatically switch off if they are bumped over, another plus as far as their safety.

The main con with halogen heaters is that they can be very bright when they are turned on. This may not matter if you place them in your living room but it does make them somewhat unsuitable for use in a bedroom if you plan on keeping the heater on all night, especially if light disturbs your sleep.

The comfort and elegance of underfloor heating is something to behold. Having your living space warmed in this manner is far more sophisticated than having radiators warm your room. Not only is it more sophisticated but healthier too. In this underfloor heating system review we will look at the benefits this type of heating provides.

Underfloor heating provides uniform heating from corner to corner. It creates warmth from the floor up and does not create large convection currents that occur with radiators. The feeling of walking on a warm floor when you step out a shower or bath is luxurious. You feel pampered and your home is more comfortable.

There are two main forms of underfloor heating: electric and water. Water versions run thin pipes under your floor and are heated by passing water through them. The water temperature is controlled by a boiler and sets the flow rates, warmth, etc. The other type is electric. In electric underfloor heating systems thin cables become heated by electricity.

These systems are not big and bulky and will not add two inches to your floor depth. They can be very thin and will add just a few millimeters in some cases.

An advantage underfloor heating systems have is that you gain space in your room. You no longer need radiators and can utilize all the wall space. Sofas, cupboards etc. can now sit flush up against a wall. Another advantage is health. With radiators, dust is carried up in convection currents into the air. With underfloor heating you do not have to worry as much about dust.

Underfloor heating is an improvement in terms of looks, functionality and health benefits. You can also gain with energy efficiency. If you have a condensing boiler, the return temperatures of underfloor heating results in the boiler condensing more often and thus saving you money. All in all underfloor heating systems are a step forward when heating your home.

Furnace filters are removable elements that fit into your furnace, usually just inside the air intake. The function of a furnace filter is to remove tiny particles of dust in the surroundings which could cause damage. Most furnaces are fitted with a replaceable filter made of fiberglass.

In recent times it has been determined that by increasing the efficiency of the filter, the functionality of your furnace can be increased. The simple filters perform fairly well to avoid your system being blocked by dust and dirt. However alternative, better furnace air filters are in the marketplace today. Usually these fiberglass filters are created to be non-reusable and just keep going a couple of months. A new furnace air filter is only a few dollars and is not a significant expense.
There can be real advantages to switching the quality of filters used in the home furnace. Advanced filters don’t just safeguard the internal furnace mechanism, but can also substantially boost the air quality in your home. They perform by extracting even microscopic particles of airborne debris, pollen and other pollutants from the circulating air. Really the only downside when using the new style of filtration is that they are more expensive as opposed to regular types.

You should know about the MERV rating system. MERV is the Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value and results on a range of from 1 to 12, with 12 being the best, how efficient the air filter is. When you are buying filters produced by a reputable dealer such as Honeywell filters, you shouldn’t have worries, but if you buy from a neighborhood discount store you should look at the MERV ranking for the furnace filters prior to buying.

The top of the line HEPA furnace filters, that attain a MERV score of the maximum 12, can filter out practically all airborne pollutants and also last longer as compared to normal filter systems. They are a pleated filter having about a three month life-span and can be bought for less than $30. Ten dollars a month is not very much to spend to protect your family’s well being.

All modern ac systems including modest mobile models contain ac air filters. These require replacing with a replacement air filter according to level of use and environments within the home. As an example, should you inhabit an area that is very prone to dust or you have dogs or cats, the air conditioning unit filtration system requires changing more often than if you have none of these factors. Not replacing your current air conditioning filter could be a false economy as once the device starts to have diminished performance levels, it will misuse electricity causing bigger power bills. A clogged air conditioning filtration system may even result in significant impairment to the ac unit.

When the thermometer drops, it is time to increase the heat. In this same scenario, lowering the thermostat means that cast iron radiators may become very hot to the touch and create a safety issue. There is a danger of children and pets getting burned by touching radiators. There is also a safety risk if flammable substances make contact with cast iron radiators because a fire could result. Fortunately, there are ways to make your radiators safer.

Installing radiator covers is one way to make them safer. Because the covers are manufactured to fit the radiator, they prevent contact between hot metal and people, animals, or any materials that might catch fire. The user need not sacrifice good looks for safety. Decorative cast iron radiator covers are available in a variety of designs from ones that are very plain to those that simulate bookcases and those that include elements of various styles. It is not generally advisable for persons to build their own covers although those with experience in that kind of construction can make their own. However, the task is not simple and there are safety issues to keep in mind. In addition to being decorative, cast iron radiator coves can also help with the distribution of warm air into a room thus increasing efficiency and aiding in the reduction of heating bills.

In some cases, radiators are equipped with a cover. If not they may need to be purchased from a location different than the radiator seller. To achieve the proper fit, measure the radiator carefully and buy the cover that fits its dimensions closely. An unusually shaped radiator may need to have a custom cover constructed. Remember, even with a cover in place, it is necessary to take precautions around radiators because covers can become hot too. If the cover has to be removed, and the heating system has been on, hand protection in the form of oven mitts or a towel should be used.

Saving energy has never been so important as it is now. Consequently people have become much more aware of this and many companies have jumped on the band wagon of how we can better insulate our homes in order to save energy and subsequently money and our environmental impact.

One of the best ways of keeping your home warm is to use draught excluders and these come in three different formats:

Door Draught Excluder
Now, these can either be in a comedy format or a more sensible bristle type of format. Either way they sit at the bottom of your door and prevent draughts from entering your room underneath the door. The bristle type of draught excluder will attach directly to the bottom of your door and will remain in contact with the floor at all times. The comedy format will come as a decorative item such as a sausage dog and you will physically have to place it at the bottom of your door ever time.

Letterbox Draught Excluder
Letter boxes allow an enormous amount of heat to escape. A letterbox draught excluder is in essence like two brushes meeting – the post passes between the two brushes with ease. Draughts however, cannot. They fit on the inside of your letter box and do not look unsightly at all.

Window Draught Excluder
If you do not have modern uPVC windows then you will probably lose a lot of heat through your windows and gaps in their frames. You can get draught exclusion tape – which is in essence like a compressible profile that you tape on to the window frame between the opening and the permanently fixed bit. Shutting the window compresses the profile and therefore gives no gaps for cold air to enter and warm air to leave.

These are just three ways you can make your home more energy efficient. There are of course many more ways, but these three of the cheapest and easiest to implement options.

A fireplace is an amazing addition to any home. It brings warmth and beauty to any home. If you decide to install a fireplace in your home, then there are many different designs to choose from. Not only do you need to choose a material of construction, but you need to choose the location, whether or not you will have a mantel, and whether it will be wood burning or gas burning. All of these decisions will play a part in how the fireplace looks when it is completed.

The first decision you should make is what kind of fuel you want to burn. The reason you should decide this first is because if you decide to have a wood burning fireplace, you locations will be limited because you will need to have a chimney of some kind. Burning wood has a more authentic smell and look to it, but it is much more messy and you need to clean the fireplace out after every use. Gas burning fireplaces are much easier to take care of and they are easy to light as well.

Once you know what kind of fuel you will be using you can choose a location. There are several different choices. You can go with a traditional fireplace in the center of a wall in one room. Alternatively, you could try something a little more unique like corner fireplace designs. A corner fireplace is unusual, but it takes a very large room to accommodate it. Another idea is to have a doubled sided fireplace. This is when there is a hole in a wall connecting two rooms for the hearth. That way, the fireplace can be enjoyed in two different rooms at the same time. Keep in mind that you will be able to see through the fireplace when it is not lit so you might want to stay away from this design in your private space like the bedroom.

Once you know where the fireplace will be you can start to think about the materials of construction and whether or not you want a mantel. The most common are brick or stone front fireplace designs. These materials are naturally flame retardant and might help to slow down the spread of a fire which makes them attractive choices. However, they are expensive; so many homeowners may decide to go with a simple drywall frame and wooden mantel.

If you are considering remodeling and updating your traditional radiators, consider replacing them with a vertical radiator which will save you space and enable you to choose which style you want. These radiators have many perks besides the obvious space related ones. They come in a variety of different sizes and shapes which make them versatile to all buyers. Some of the different options a buyer has are metallic flat panel bars, stainless steel bars, tubular types, mirror types, plain black, traditional, vintage, modern, smooth panel and compact. These different options also come in many colors that can match any decor. These types of radiators are not only aesthetically pleasing they are also a very effective heat source, making them a practical investment for any remodel project.

These radiators are also generally installed on the wall and are small enough not to infringe upon the placement of furniture in a room. Traditional radiators often caused home owners a problem when they went to arrange their furniture, finding the radiator in the middle of the main wall in a room where they needed to place furniture. Often their only option was to block the heat source, effectively making their room colder and raising their utility bill in their effort to keep their room heated comfortably. Also by placing their furniture in front of the radiator it exposed their furniture directly to heat which can cause damage to their belongings. Vertical radiators help to avoid this problem and also add to the decor of any home while provide a practical use as well. The heating from these radiators is as effective or superior to the heat that comes from traditional radiators. A vertical radiator is a practical addition to any home remodel that requires a heating system.
