Brown Rugs for Neutral Color Schemes

Warm neutrals are a great look for any room. They are easy on the eye and they have a look of quality about them without actually having to spend a fortune. They are also very easy to put together.

You can choose any shade of cream for your walls (either paint or wallpaper) and beige carpeting or medium colored hardwood for the floor. (Honey oak laminate flooring would work too if hardwood is too much for your budget). Hang cream or beige curtains at the window or choose a patterned fabric incorporating both beige and cream. Then you can choose cream upholstery for a living room or cream bedding for a bedroom and you are more or less done.

Of course, you do need a few finishing touches to make your neutral color scheme come alive and you can do that with the richer shades of brown either with dark brown wooden occasional furniture or brown rugs and cushions.

You will find rugs in all different shades of brown. A darker beige than your soft furnishings would work well or even the darkest chocolate brown (although if you choose the latter make sure that you have a number of other similar colored items dotted around your room to provide a balance).

Try and add some interest with your rug too. A textured rug looks good in a contemporary living room so choose one with longer pile if you have a modern style room. If you have a more formal style traditional living room you can get Chinese rugs with a mushroom or beige colored background which would suit better than a plain brown rug.

As for shape, buy a rug which matches the floor area you are putting your rug into. A square or round rug looks good as the focal point of a square shaped room or L-shaped seating area whereas a rectangular rug works best for a floor area of the same shape.
